Great Resource in Seoul – Seoul Global Centers

I just started a Korean Language course last week at the Itaewon Global Village Center and wanted to share with you the programs that they offer for foreigners.  There are a total of seven Global Village Centers in Seoul (located in Itaewon, Ichon, Seorae, etc).  They have a main Seoul Global Cultural Center in Myeongdong that offers weekly cultural experiences.

If you are like me and always looking for something fun and interesting to do, then you will really appreciate the programs that they offer. The best part is that their programs are often FREE (sometimes they have a nominal fee)! Their web address is below (and has a listing of all of their locations and schedule of courses).

So a little more about my Korean Language class.  The Global Village Centers offers 10 week courses that start from Absolute Beginner (that’s me!) all the way to Intermediate.  There are 6 levels you can master and you meet twice a week for an hour and a half each class.  The classes are free as I mentioned (you just have to buy your books, which were less than $30 for my workbook and my textbook).  For the Absolutely Beginner class there is a lottery system as there are many people who want to attend the class, but not enough spots in the class to accommodate everyone.  We were very lucky and made it into the class with no issue, but one guy had said he tried 5 times to get in!! Our teacher is really great! She makes class very interesting, explains the fundamentals behind the Korean language, and also makes sure that all the students are on the same page.

Additionally, they have a schedule of programs each month that include tours, CPR training, arts and crafts, etc.  They even have organized volunteering opportunities.

I think that this is an amazing resources that the city of Seoul provides to foreigners and it really is something that more people should be taking advantage of.  Make sure that you email them and sign up for their newsletter to find out what new and upcoming events they will be having!
